Nail polish- Neutral colors of course

Little Jesus pictures- You can never go wrong!

Little cut out quotes- From general conference for example

Journals- I currently have like 6 and use all of them for different purposes!

Cards and letter materials- To make writing letters home cute and fun!

A hand written letter

Craft stuff- (If you’re like me) for example tape, stamps, cut outs, decorative paper!

Chapstick

Sticky notes- “I’m an organized mess”

Sister things (from desseret book)- Everything is cute there!

Mints- Me personally I love the little round icebreaker containers

Stickers- Of all sorts, Disney or cars or anything it is so fun to stick them on letters when writing loved ones

Money- For souvenirs!

Jewelry- Keep it simple

Lip scrub

Essential oils- Just because I’m obsessed and they work!

Watch- Different color for a different day!

Holiday boxes- Christmas (stockings), Thanksgiving, Halloween! Themes are so fun!

Keep in mind I’m in a stateside mission so foreign is a completely different story!

A Grateful Heart

Hello from Ridgway, Pennsylvania! I am almost 7 months out on my 18 month mission and my eyes have truly opened. I wanted to share 30 things I’m grateful for especially this month. It’s amazing when you come on your mission your priorities change and you recognize a lot more blessings, here are SOME of mine:

1. The beauty of the world

How blessed are we for a beautiful earth God has given us. Alma 30:44 “… yea, and all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator.”

2. Volunteering opportunities- The Food Bank

Mosiah 2: 17 “And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.”

3. Service, I love how members of the church are so quick to help each other.

4. Ordinances and covenants!

How lucky are we that we get to make sacred promises with our Heavenly Father to follow Him and our Savior Jesus Christ and them in return bless us. I was blessed to be apart of Tanja’s baptism and helping her (as a tool in the Hands of my father in heaven to) reaching this milestone in her life. Keeping my covenants I’ve made at baptism and in the temple have changed my life for the better forever, I am so grateful to be a member of this Church and a disciple of my Savior.

Doctrine & Covenants 54:6 “But blessed are they who have kept the covenant and observed the commandment, for they shall obtain mercy.”

5. The opportunity of being a representative of a Christ

Mosiah 28:3 “Now they were desirous that salvation should be declared to every creature, for they could not bear that any human soul should perish; yea, even the very thoughts that any soul should endure endless torment did cause them to quake and tremble.”

6. The ukele

Doctrine and Covenants 82:18″ And all this for the benefit of the church of the living God, that every man may improve upon his talent, that every man may gain other talents, yea, even an hundred fold, to be cast into the Lord’s storehouse, to become the common property of the whole church.”

7.The Living Christ which helps me draw closer to Him. Check it out now! https://www.lds.org/liahona/2000/04/the-living-christ-the-testimony-of-the-apostles-the-church-of-jesus-christ-of-latter-day-saints?lang=eng

8. Nature! On my mission I’ve seen the spiritual connection with nature a lot more. Christ went into the garden of Gethsemane to atone for our sins and Joseph Smith went into a Grove of trees where he had the first vision. Such amazing life changing events in nature and those are just some of them.

9. The Book of Mormon, it’s changed my life.

10. All my companions, they are so sweet!

11. Those fighting for our freedom so that we can practice religion how we please.

12. The Bible, my favorite is Matthew in the new testament.. I love love love reading Christ’s sermons.

13. The unique message we have of the Restoration of the Gospel

14. Temples.. “what matters most is what lasts the longest.”

15. The family proclamation. ” Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

16. My family and the knowledge I have that families are eternal.

17. Prayer

18. My Savior, I’ve truly came closer to Him and continue to each day as I read His gospel in the Bible and book of Mormon.

19. Crafts

20. My pink house but more importantly the fact I have a roof over my head!

21. Animals

22. Pennsylvania, I’m grateful God let me be here for a year and a half.

23. Postcards, my new found hobby is to collect them.

24. Friends.. The friends I’ve made out here are going to be my friends forever, I am so blessed.

25. Idahome

26. Modern day Prophets: ” The teachings of living prophets provide an anchor of eternal truth in a world of shifting values and help us avoid misery and sorrow.”

27. My mission and mission president and his wife

28. Holidays

29. Fellow missionaries

30. A church to worship in

Monday November 20th

Funny then serious, we helped this super Christian lady clean her house and Pennsylvanians when they ask you to use the sweeper it means to vacuum, bet you didn’t know that!

I had one of the most spiritual moments of my mission tonight. I’ve been really homesick lately and been having a hard time and was just comparing my life and wondering why am I here what does Heavenly Father need from me? We had a lesson with a less active sister and her granddaughter. The grandmother has been raising these 2 sixteen year old girls and struggling about what path they are on. I just felt th spirit testify so strong to me that no matter what’s wrong, or who or what or why just anything in life can be healed by this gospel. Jesus Christ heals us through it all even when we feel like He is not there, He is. This gospel, this church is true. It’s true and it blesses lives so much it’s a miracle. I know this church is true, I love this gospel and I love my Savior.

Tuesday November 21st

Got to hand out some turkeys today @ the foodbank! Got some tacos too, it was a good day.

Scripture of the day: Alma 17:10 ” And it came to pass that the Lord did visit them with his Spirit, and said unto them: Be comforted. And they were comforted.”

Wednesday November 22nd

Got lost today a lot but hey it’s okay. I read such a good talk today that I would encourage all of you to read its called “His grace is sufficient” by Brad Wilcox a well known lds speaker.

https://www.lds.org/new-era/2012/08/his-grace-is-sufficient?lang=eng&_r=1

Thursday November 23rd  🦃 TURKEY DAY 🦃

I loved today. We started off by going to a nursing home. I got to talk to so many sweet, sweet ladies. One lady I had the same conversation with about 20 times but hey it’s okay. She repeatedly asked me if I had a boyfriend I kept saying after my mission, after my mission and then one time I changed my answer and said I’m too young she said “nope.. You should have one by now” . Hahaha I can’t get away from this question, at least I won’t have to deal with it next year I’ll only be like a week home haha!

Today was very delicious. I had a salted Carmel pecan pie, I used to not like pie but now I LOVE PIE. We had Thanksgiving at our branch presidents house with Tanja! It was so fun but I sure missed my family lots. Preston and I are buds though (their 7 year old) I totally let him win at air hockey and ping pong. It was a day to remember for sure. We ended the day playing chines checkers with some other members. I’ve never missed my family more than I did today, but in so grateful for so many things about my mission.

Scripture of the day: 1 Nephi 10:6 “Wherefore, all mankind were in a lost and in a fallen state, and ever would be save they should rely on this Redeemer.”

Friday November 24th

Light up night! We got pictures with Santa and handed out hot chocolate, cookies and #lighttheworld pass along cards a night after a day full of planning!

Scripture of the day: 1 Nephi 10: 18 “For he is the same yesterday, today, and forever; and the way is prepared for all men from the foundation of the world, if it so be that they repent and come unto him.”

Saturday November 25th

Today we spent reading the polar express to kids and helping them paint! I love love love the service opportunities we get as missionaries and that this cute little town puts on such fun events! 🙂

Scriptures of the day: Matthew 11: 28 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Sunday November 26th

“The seventh day is for second chances.”

I love church, the sacrament is truly such a relief for me in my life, especially missionary life. How grateful I am for a gospel and a church where I get to renew my covenants and remember my Savior every week. Also I love egg nog now too, I didn’t before.

Scripture of the day: 2 Nephi 4:20 “My God hath been my support; he hath led me through mine afflictions in the wilderness; and he hath preserved me upon the waters of the great deep.”

Pictures:

Thanksgiving at the glades ft. Preston’s silly face

More Thanksgiving pics

So they paint rocks on Pennsylvania and then write like” Ridgway fb” on the back so you paint a rock and hide it in town then go and find others and when you do you take a picture with it, put it on the fb page then re hide it, it’s so fun! Sariah gave me one with my name on it!

Santa’s chair with Tina my BFF and the elves

Found a pretty beach while lost in treasure lake

LIGHT THE WORLD

Here is the calendar with ideas and a kids one (not made by the church also use the #lighttheworld instead of theirs) and you can even do your own idea, take pictures and tell me what you do each day so I can get ideas 🙂

ps. more pictures to come you’re welcome

love yinz, have a good week! Don’t forget to #lighttheworld STARTING DECEMBER 1ST!!!!

THIS GOSPEL IS TRUE. I KNOW IT, I LIVE IT, I LOVE IT.

Small and simple things

It was the day of our branch Halloween party, October 26th, 2017. My companion and I had only planned it a week prior so we were a little antsy about the outcome. We were sitting in a store parking lot before we were heading over after we had just finished helping at a community trick or treat event. Overthinking and nervous for the outcome we reached out to another leader who was helping us plan the party.

We called her and frantically expressed our concerns about not having enough of this or that and wondering if things were going to turn out. She then said something which I was not expecting but which I needed very much. It was along the lines of “Heavenly Father will help us, we’ve done all we can and He knows we have worked hard He will help us. It will all work out don’t worry.” When we have Him on our side we won’t lose. What an eye opening experience for me.

During this process of course I prayed for this party to be a success but I did not turn to my Father in Heaven enough for solace or comfort from my great anxieties the party was causing. Christ knows all things, so He knows how to help us with each situation differently. We need to always turn to Him no matter how small or simple it is.

That day I learned that Heavenly Father cared about my Halloween party. He cared about the outcome, the success and the work I put into it. He cares about all those small and simple things that we care about that we might think no one else does, but He does because he cares about me. He cares about my life and what’s important to me, and He cares about you as well and what you care about.

Next time you need help or comfort before a big test, or a big meet or even before something you think is so small and insignificant ask Him. If it is important to you, it is important to Him.

Moral of the story is to always be willing to turn to our Father in Heaven in prayer, to Him first not your friend or leader but Him, and just ask because for His help after you’ve done all that you can do and He can and will make those small and

simple things into something amazing.

God is OH SO GOOD!

Here’s my marriage advice I learned:

Never go to bed angry

Don’t marry a project

You’re welcome.

General conference is coming up I am BEYOND EXCITED! It is a chance to hear from God’s modern day prophets and apostles and invite all of you to think of questions about life or the church or anything at all, ponder them and pray and then watch general conference and I know they’ll be answered.

Visit: https://www.lds.org/church/events/october-2017-general-conference?lang=eng&cid=HP_FR_15-9-2017_dPFD_fCE_xLIDyL2_

For more information!

If yall don’t have time to read all of this go straight to sat/sun.

Monday September 11th

Walked around my cute little town today Ridgway and got to go to little antique shops and local bakeries! It was the best 🙂 got tons of little souvenirs! We later that night had lessons with our gators!

Brian is the sweetest man I’ve ever met. Get this.. So he had a son die as a premie and so apparently little beanie babies the nurses in the NICU used to use them under the babi system legs to help stretch them out! So he collects beanie babies and takes them to the NICU every Christmas! And so when we went over there he let me pick one 🙂 I picked a lamb! A cute little sheep, why did I pick out a sheep?

3 Nephi 15:17 That other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

We know in the Bible the Lord visits those in Jerusalem and what not but in the Book of Mormon he has more “sheep” aka children more folds whom we loves and cared for just as much. We know the book of Mormon contains the account when Christ came to the earth and appeared to the Nephites. I know this to be true and I love the book of Mormon with all my heart.

Tuesday September 12th

My desire to write weeklys are less and less each week so don’t be surprised if I only send home pictures lol. Tonight we had a book of Mormon class and you guys, I LOVE THE BOOK OF MORMON SO MUCH. I learned so much just from 2 chapters it was so amazing it made me so excited to continue reading it and how much it applies to these latter days is crazy all yall need to read it because it is TRUE!

Wednesday September 13th

“never go to sleep angry” – the hess fam

Thursday September 14th

Today we had our zone conference with a seventy! What’s a seventy? Find out here https://www.lds.org/topics/church-organization?lang=eng&old=true

It was Elder and sister Nielson! His wife started off by talking to the sisters about finding a stellar guy and told us “don’t marry a project”! That we need to find an amazing husband who’s testimony matches our own!

We always need to submit cheerfully to the Lord as well! A lot of times in life we are asked to do things we don’t want to do and we go through trials that we don’t want to go through. But we are closest to the Lord when He is stretching us and that can only occur through trials. If we submit cheerfully to whatever we are going through or what the Lord asks us to do we will be blessed. It’s all about perspective.

Friday September 15th

Our investigator Brian the one I talk about in Monday is like so kind. We volunteer at the food bank and he brings us this bag with little homemade pumpkin bread in it just for us, what a sweetheart! ALSO we were talking to him about this lady we had met and how she couldn’t afford food and she would always buy her dogs food before her (because Pennsylvanians are crazy) so Brian goes out and buys her a whole dang box full of food. Saint? Um yes! Then later during dinner we got to go to a little festival in one of our towns, I live and love for these things. I bought a cute t-shirt (I’ve bought like 10 so far) and some stickers. Definitely a happy Sister Higley.

Saturday September 16th

SO MANY MIRACLES TODAY. So we went to try to find this house and I put the wrong address in because I’m a dip so we get out walk around and then go to ask this family but get this the mom is like you came here to see me and we’re like whaaaat and she’s like yeah I was baptized in Salt Lake years ago and haven’t been since really. She’s married now to a nonmember and has two cute little kids anyways that dads all like “wow you guys are an answer to my prayer, we’ve been having such a hard time and I know this is no coincidence and that you’re an answer to my prayer that this will really help me and my family, I want to come to church with them. I know God brought you here. ”

*BAM* MIRACLE.

We were in the right place at the right time with the right people. God is oh so good and mindful of us and our situations. He will answer your prayers like he answered this man’s and like He everyday continues to answer mine.

THIS GOSPEL IS TRUE.

Sunday September 17th

Today was probably the best day of my mission. The family I talked about above, the Coles came and loved church and want to come again, Tanja our investigator came for the second time too and never wants to leave! Just pray she can quit smoking so we can dunk her on October 15th! Yesterday on a whim we visited a less active of about ten years and invited him and his non member wife to come, they were very hesitant but today he showed up, he really came my jaw about dropped!!! He said his wife would’ve come too but he decided to come so last minute but we are so happy!!! We had so many other less actives come today it was such a blessing to see all of the hard work I’ve put into these past couple weeks pay off. It was all Heavenly Father! I am a tool in His hand in hastening the work and I am so grateful I get to be a missionary 🙂 He is amazing and truly answers our prayers and blesses us. I am still on awe today was everything I could’ve asked for.

Email me if yall wanna talk

Stay outta trouble and pray and thank God every day

Also pray for me I’m sick lol

Love yall

Dear Future Husband

One Sunday school we talked about eternal marriage and where much is expected much is required. President Gordon B. Hinckley counseled: “Choose a companion of your own faith. You are much more likely to be happy. Choose a companion you can always honor, you can always respect, one who will complement you in your own life, one to whom you can give your entire heart, your entire love, your entire allegiance, your entire loyalty”.

So dear future husband,

Always honor me and my worth. Show me respect. Compliment me often. Give your entire heart, your entire love, your entire allegiance and your entire lotalty. Please be patient. Be kind, caring and helpful. Be gentle, understanding and honest. Tell me you love me every day. Be forgiving. Be selfless. Serve me and others. Love and make time for our family. Be responsible. Be truthful. Be open. Be affectionate. Be charitable. Be hopeful. Be faithful. Be determined. Be humble. Be diligent. Be obedient to Him. Keep me on track. Be positive and happy. Help around the house. Talk to me about everything and anything. Help me to change for the better and to come closer to my Savior. Come to me with concerns, don’t keep things inside. Be concerned for my well-being. Be committed. Be focused. Be fun. Be overprotective of me. Don’t judge me. Love my family as much as you love me. Just be there for me.

Take me on dates, let us make time for each other. Let’s be kids and have fun. Tell me jokes, hug me tight, comfort me and lay with me every night. Listen to me. Look at me like I’m your entire world. Cuddle with me and always hold my hand. Kiss me often. Dance with me in the kitchen. Cook with me every night. Play with my hair. Try new things with me. Take me on adventures. Always hold me close. Make sure you feel butterflies everytime you look at me or think of me. Buy me flowers. Have good taste in music. Spoil me on my birthday. Bring me breakfast in bed. Take pictures with me and capture those memories. Support me in all that I do all my crazy ideas and hobbies. Watch scary movies with me. Kill all the spiders because I’m too scared to. Keep me in shape. Tickle my back during church and always offer back rubs. Tell me I’m beautiful even after I just woke up. Just be my best friend.

Be worthy. Follow the commandments and be determined to live them. Be an example to me. Take me to church and encourage us to stay and partake of those blessings. Help me to always remember our focus. Let’s make goals. Take me to the temple once a week. Live your covenants. Be a worthy priesthood holder and access those blessings often. Pray with me, for me and our family. Make time to play with the kids. Honor and fulfill your church callings and as a provider. Read the scriptures with me. Strengthen my testimony and have a strong one yourself. Have faith in Jesus christ. Fulfill your roles and duties as a husband and father. Continue to develop the attributes of Christ. Lead and guide our marriage and family by the Spirit.

But most importantly.. Love God more than you love me.

Remember Elder Richard G. Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve said: “There is more to a foundation of eternal marriage than a pretty face or an attractive figure. There is more to consider than popularity or charisma. As you seek an eternal companion, look for someone who is developing the essential attributes that bring happiness: a deep love of the Lord and of His commandments, a determination to live them, one that is kindly understanding, forgiving of others, and willing to give of self, with the desire to have a family crowned with beautiful children and a commitment to teach them the principles of truth in the home.”

Do all these things for me and I’ll do all these things for you.

Love,

Your future wifey

God squad

Monday August 21

As everyone saw I went and hiked a thousand plus steps today it was awesome. I miss my Idaho mountains though, also I’m jealous I missed the eclipse. There’s a lot of spiders in my apartment so pray for that to just stop.

I’ve been doing an activity where I look for the good in others like qualities, talents, gifts and things that they do and say well and then complimenting them on it. It truly helps us to love everyone as a child of God and to see them how Heavenly Father sees them and loves them as well as turning outward instead of inward.

Alma 62:51 “And they did pray unto the Lord their God continually, insomuch that the Lord did bless them, according to his word, so that they did wax strong and prosper in the land.”

When we serve others, compliment them, pray continually and follow his commandments and the gospel he has given us that He will strengthen us and help us to progress in this life and stay on that path for us to have eternal life with our families.

Tuesday August 22

Alma 60:11 “Behold, could ye suppose that ye could sit upon your thrones, and because of the exceeding goodness of God ye could do nothing and he would deliver you? Behold, if ye have supposed this ye have supposed in vain.”

We have to do our parts in order for God to bless us!

Took a bomb nap today. Cleaning up the area book so the people that are, have been and potentially are interested in learning from the missionaries didn’t have much luck 😦

Wednesday August 23

Man today wasn’t something else. Taught a lesson but this guy is too hung up on his ex girlfriend and that’s all he talks about but he’s super interested in the gospel he just talks all day giving us the “not to do’ s” in relationships lol @ that. We had a member feed us dinner also we got to go to a tennis match for her it was so fun! We love the foltz family they are home away from home 🙂

Also had the best district meeting today, I felt the spirit so strongly.

The Spirit is so amazing because He speaks to us each individually and personally because He knows us and our needs. Heleman 5:30  states “And it came to pass when they heard this voice, and beheld that it was not a voice of thunder, neither was it a voice of a great tumultuous noise, but behold, it was a still voice of perfect mildness, as if it had been a whisper, and it did pierce even to the very soul”

He is a still small voice and if we are caught up in the noises of the world we won’t be able to hear the promptings and comfort He is willing and wants to give us.

Thursday August 24

Today was our service day! We folded clothes and painted at the salvation army! I then made biscuits and pesto today for the soup kitchen! It’s so amazing to be able to see so many different religions work together and have one purpose to help and serve God’s children just like mosiah 18:17 in the Book of Mormon says “And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.”

Friday August 25

So we had a special meeting today where our mission president threw down and rebuked everyone for not being strictly obedient. It was intense. Then I was able to receive a priesthood blessing of comfort and peace. It’s amazing to see how someone who just met me but has the priesthood- the power and authority to act in God’s name gave me such a beautiful blessing of guidance and reassurance. We believe that we have the priesthood that Christ once had and that it’s been restored to the earth today by the prophet Joseph Smith. I am so very grateful for those worthy priesthood holders and than I am able to access those blessings from that.

I encourage you all to read this!

Saturday August 26

Learned how to French braid today which made me super happy. Jesus loves you.

Sunday August 27

Only like 40 people came to church today, it’s so weird I don’t think I’ll ever get used to branch life. The talks and lessons were amazing though talking about eternal marriage in gospel doctrines and its always nice to be able to reflect on expectations I want for my future husband and for myself as a wife and a mother and how as I gain these Christlike attributes like in the video below how that’ll help me prepare to be a wifey and a mom one day soon!

Monday July 24 Pioneer Day 🙂
I love pioneer day, I spent my morning reading about all my ancestors crossing the plains and it really is such a neat thing. We then went to the strip again in down town Pittsburgh where I got tons of presents for my siblings 🙂 then to a church to watch the elders play basketball once again.
We played this really fun game at dinner at a members house, you get a measuring cup and pack it with flour then put it on a plate so it's like a tower of flour then you put a candy on top. We all then took turns trying to cut a little section off without it falling and when it fell you'd have to grab the candy out of the flour with your mouth and no hands haha! Supposedly this was a game the pioneers played 🙂

Tuesday July 25th
Found the school where perks of being a wall flower was filmed, can't wait to go there and then to watch the movie when I get home. Everything else today was a blur. I'm getting more comfortable with teaching but still horrified of going up and talking to people but can't find people to teach if I'm not doing that I guess. We got a car wash today that was fun.

Family history is the coolest okay? I love being able to go to Family Tree and see my ancestors and read about all of their lives, it's so encouraging to know that they're on the other side of the veil, not too far encouraging us and cheering us on. Anyone can do family history! It's such a rewarding experience to find one of your ancestors. Just go to:

https://www.lds.org/topics/family-history-alt?lang=eng&_r=1&old=true

Wednesday July 26th
Learned how & then made bread and cinnamon rolls today, boy the best bread and cinnamon rolls I've ever tasted. Hmu after my mission if you want some #wifemeup. We then did service for a ward member who's about to move, tried people then had dinner. Honestly we aren't having any luck and it's really hard but I'm hanging in there.
We need to all stop judging others and that includes ourselves. How do we do that?

https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2012/04/the-merciful-obtain-mercy?lang=eng

Thursday July 27th
Something I've learned is how to "Overcome the World". In a talk given by Elder Neil A Anderson he states "Overcoming the world is not one defining moment in a lifetime, but a lifetime of moments that define an eternity." And how overcoming the world is being less concerned with our online connections and more concerned with our heavenly connection to God.

So I invite you to take a step back and evaluate if your relationship with Heavenly Father is more important than your online one or with anything or anyone else of this world, if not we need to change so we can overcome the world and draw nearer to our Savior by having meaningful conversations with the Lord. Read the full talk here:

Today we had a member walk into our district meeting and gave us $50 so we could go out to lunch so we got chic fil a which was bomb then an elder went the wrong way on a one way and that was interesting some lady yelled at him too. Also there's bat's everywhere here, have you ever heard them do echo location? It's so weird.

Friday July 28th
I made a bracelet during weekly planning today so hmu if you want a friendship bracelet.
Cool experience! We had a lesson with a less actives family at their son's football practice and their friend sat in with us, she listened to the plan of salvation lesson and accepted a Book of Mormon and we're going back next week to teach another lesson, such a tender mercy!

Saturday July 29th
The weeks are flying by. Today we helped a member move! Then did studies, went out to dinner at the crackle barrel which was Yum. I used to make fun of those people who get salads at dinner but that's me now, it's so hard to eat healthy out here. We then hard sports night woo, my watermelon picking skills are definitely improving, none of this probably makes any sense but I'm fine with it. We got 2 new referrals today, thanks to elders. I hope things pick up soon since summer is coming to and end and hopefully people will be less busy.

Sunday July 30th
This youth started out his talk pretty funny he said "last week I got a text from this unknown number and I thought it was some cutie but it was just the bishopric asking me to speak today" hahaha oh man. We had a less active and a investigator at church today, the hard work might be starting to pay off! And got to meet with a less active family today after months of trying, yes!! I love this church and I know that it's true. I feel the spirit so strongly in my life testifying of it.

I love you all! Happy birthday to my brother Luke he turns 13 on the 4th, whaaaat I can't believe it, sad I'm not there but I'll be celebrating from here. Also to my baby Brigham he's going to be 5! Ahh!! He's getting so big I miss his funny jokes. I love my brother's. And hope of course. Anyways I hope you all have a great week and email me 🙂

Modern Day Pioneers

“You always hear about people today saying they don’t know how the pioneers got through all their hardships, but I’m sure some that are in heaven are saying the same things about us today.” – A talk given by Sister Janette Hales Beckham in May of 1997 titled "Modern Pioneers".

When we think of pioneers we imagine this:

Faithful, courageous, sacrificing, brave children of God. Hundreds of years ago our fellow members of the church, our brothers and our sisters left the east to come to settle in the west to get away from religious persecutions.

An article from the friend stated:
"Between 1856 and 1860, eight Latter-day Saint handcart companies crossed the plains successfully. Only the Martin and Willie Companies
suffered such tragedy. Out of 576 people in the Martin Company, at least 145 died. Approximately 67 out of 500 Willie Company
members died. Yet members of these companies were grateful for the Spirit they felt and the testimony they gained through their
experiences. Francis Webster, a member of the Martin Company, said, “We suffered beyond anything you can imagine and many died
of exposure and starvation, but . . . every one of us came through with the absolute knowledge that God lives”.

Today we're not being killed for our beliefs, but we are still made fun of, judged and treated poorly. We're not being asked to pick up all of our belongings, families and walk thousands of miles across the country but we are asked to make sacrifices for our families, church callings and serving those around us. We're not dying of the lack of food or water but we are dying spiritually. We weren't asked to cross the plains on a wagon to save our lives while risking them but we are asked to stand up for what we believe in, to have faith enough in the Lord to do what He asks of us, to follow promptings, share the gospel and be courageous, brave and to sacrifice for our religion.

They had to have faith enough in God. Enough faith that they would trust His prophets to lead and guide them to a better life. Faith that they would make it and if they didn't, faith that they would see their family again. They had to have courage that the Lord knew what was best for them and there are always better things lying ahead. They had to be strong in dealing with their trials and afflictions. They had to be brave, not knowing what laid ahead of them. They had to believe, trust, and rely on the Savior.

The pioneers had to do all of these things, and now so do we because we are modern day pioneers. Yes our trials our different but more alike than they seem. We each learn and grow from the hardships we endure. We have to embrace them and let the Lord lighten our loads.

We have to be modern day pioneers and we can do that by:
» Standing up for what we believe in & being an example to others regardless of what they do to us or think of us
» Sharing the gospel in all times & places
» Believing that God has a plan for us & we can see our families again
» Having faith in and trust that Heavenly Father provided a modern day prophet to guide and direct us in these latter days
» Letting the Lord lighten our burdens by prayer, reading and praying about the Book of Mormon and worshiping Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ by partaking of the sacrament
» Sacrificing our time, talents and efforts in our callings & serving those around us

So I challenge a of you to be a modern day pioneers, to stand up for what you know is right and to lead and be an example to those around you. Endure your trials and hardships with faith in Christ. You can do this, don't give up.

I'm a member of the church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints. I'm a missionary and I'm a modern day pioneer.
